King Herod: biblical baddie, infamous infant-slayer, and all-around unpleasant chap. But is there more to the story than the somewhat biased account offered in the scriptures? National Geographic’s “Lost Treasures of the Bible” aims to find out.
This Sunday’s episode focuses on the life and times of Herod, digging (literally) into new archaeological discoveries that offer a fresh perspective on the controversial king. Using cutting-edge 3D CGI, the program reconstructs Herod’s world, from his opulent palaces to the bustling streets of ancient Judea.
While Herod earned the moniker “Herod the Great,” his reputation in the Bible isn’t exactly stellar. The episode explores this dichotomy, examining the historical context of his reign and attempting to separate fact from biblical embellishment. It’s a chance to understand the man behind the myth, or at least, behind the biblical portrayal of him.
“Lost Treasures of the Bible: The Real King Herod” airs Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 8:00 PM on National Geographic.
