BBC Two has announced that they will be airing another Ghost Story for Christmas, written by Mark Gatiss  (Sherlock and Doctor Who). This upcoming ghost story, set to air in 2024, is an adaptation of a story by Arthur Conan Doyle, the famous author of the Sherlock Holmes series. It follows in the footsteps of previous Christmas adaptations of The Mezzotint in 2021 and Count Magnus in 2022.

Lot No. 249 is a story about a group of students at Oxford University. One of these students becomes interested in the secrets of Ancient Egypt and starts conducting experiments. These experiments become the talk of the college. The main question is whether these experiments can actually bring to life a horrifying bag of bones known as Lot No. 249.

The cast of this one-off production includes Kit Harington from Game of Thrones and Freddie Fox from Slow Horses. Other actors in the cast are Colin Ryan, Kohn Heffernan, James Swanton, Jonathan Rigby, and Andrew Horton.

Mark Gatiss said: “It’s a serious delight for me to delve once again into the brilliant work of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, this time for the Christmas ghost story. Lot No. 249 is personal favourite and is the granddaddy (or should that be mummy?) of a particular kind of end of empire chiller: a ripping yarn packed with ghastly scares and who-knows-what lurking in the Victorian closet.”
