Another Married At First Sight (MAFS) Dinner Party, another explosion of drama, this time courtesy of Dave and Jamie. While Feedback Week seemed to strengthen some couples, it pushed these two to the brink, with Dave’s sudden change of heart leaving everyone stunned. You can stream the episode now on 9Now.
Here’s the Lowdown: The episode began with simmering tensions. Ryan was still stewing over Jacqui’s lengthy letter criticizing his views on masculinity. Meanwhile, Awhina was preparing to confront Carina about a disrespectful comment made about her twin sister, Cleo (a comment Paul, Carina’s partner, had relayed to Awhina. Carina apologises, but then rows with Paul about his involvement. However, the real drama unfolded with Jamie and Dave. Jamie arrived at the Cocktail Hour alone, revealing that Dave had coldly told her his feelings hadn’t progressed.
What This Means Now: Jamie, previously confident in their relationship, was devastated and removed her wedding ring. The other couples, and the experts, were shocked by Dave’s behaviour, as he had never previously expressed these doubts. His repeated insistence that he “doesn’t hate” Jamie only made things worse.
The Bigger Picture: The Dinner Party exposed a major disconnect in Dave and Jamie’s relationship. His sudden coldness, especially after the Partner Swap task (where he spent time with Veronica), raised questions. Adrian even suggested Dave’s feelings might have shifted towards Veronica, a claim Dave denied. Ultimately, Jamie demanded that Dave put in the effort to win her back. Dave claims he does want to work things out but the episode ends with considerable doubt, showing him giving an awkward grin and saying that they are “Still married”. It all points to a very tough Commitment Ceremony ahead.
Married At First Sight airs Sunday at 7pm and Monday to Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
