In this premiere episode of Mammoth, viewers are introduced to Tony Mammoth, a PE teacher who, after being caught in an avalanche in 1979 (Adam Adamant style), finds himself transported to the present day. Thought to be dead, Tony is miraculously brought back to life and must now navigate the much-changed world of 2024.
The series, created and written by Mike Bubbins, who also stars as Tony Mammoth, offers a unique blend of comedy and time-bending storytelling. In the pilot episode, Tony, a carefree bachelor from the 1970s, finds himself back at his old job as a PE teacher, staying with his 1970s friend Roger, and driving his beloved Ford Capri II.
Tony, a man out of time, is determined to reclaim his old life, including his job, his car, and his friends. He is a larger-than-life character with a moustache, a love for crisps and pints, and a unique approach to life. He is a self-proclaimed “man’s man and a woman’s man,” who believes he has already nailed life once and is eager to do so again.
The show features an impressive cast, including Sian Gibson, who plays Melanie, the mother of one of Tony’s pupils. Other cast members include Joseph Marcell, Joel Davison, and William Thomas.
Mammoth promises a heartwarming and humorous journey as Tony navigates the challenges of adjusting to modern life and reconnecting with the world he once knew.
Mammoth airs on BBC Two at 10:00 PM on Wednesday, 17 April 2024.
