Three singers. Two coveted spots in the finale. One “Smack Royale” to determine who advances. That’s the simple, yet high-stakes, equation on tonight’s “The Masked Singer.” Forget subtlety; forget nuance. This is a reality TV sprint to the finish line, a melodic melee where vocal cords clash and sequins fly.
The final trio of disguised warblers will belt out their renditions of “Lose You To Love Me,” “Africa,” and “Beautiful Things” in the newly minted “Smack Royale” format, a hybrid of the usual Battle Royale and Smackdown rounds. Apparently, two separate competitions for costumed crooners were just too much to handle. Efficiency, people!
Kicking off the night, the three semi-finalists will unite for a group performance of “Some Nights.” This will be the viewing audience’s last chance to hear these particular voices blended before one is silenced… at least until the inevitable unmasking. But don’t expect the reveals to come easy. This season’s clues have been more labyrinthine than a Minotaur’s maze, so viewers will need their decoder rings handy. Tonight’s clues arrive in the form of friendship bracelets, gifted to panelists who share a connection with each masked celebrity. Because nothing says “I know your secret identity” like a bit of braided string.
Presiding over the controlled chaos, as always, will be host Nick Cannon, with panelists Ken Jeong, Rita Ora, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg attempting to decipher the clues and guess the celebrities behind the masks. Will their guesses be more accurate than a coin toss? The odds aren’t great, but that’s part of the fun, isn’t it?
Tune in to see who makes the cut and who gets unmasked on “The Masked Singer,” airing Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 8:00-9:02 PM ET/PT on FOX.
