The Masked Singer: Who Are You Fest

The Masked Singer Key Art

Another Wednesday night, another round of elaborately disguised celebrities warbling their way into our hearts (or at least, provoking mild curiosity). FOX’s The Masked Singer returns for its seventh outing of Season 12, introducing a new batch of costumed crooners ready to confound the panelists and viewers at home. This week’s theme, “Who Are You Fest,” sets the stage for what the network assures us will be a festival of anonymity.

So, what can we expect from this phantasmagorical fete of hidden identities? Group C will take their turn in the spotlight, belting out a selection of hits including “You and I,” “Under The Bridge,” “Tonight Tonight,” “Call Me Maybe,” and “Slow Burn.” While the song choices may hint at the singers’ backgrounds, true insight looks to come from the Celebrity Masked Ambassadors, whose presence is set to inject some additional intrigue – or perhaps just more confusion – into the proceedings.

It’s hard to know whether this influx of guest clue-givers is a genuine effort to enhance the guessing game or a desperate ploy to keep the format fresh after twelve seasons. But hey, as long as the costumes remain outlandish and the performances range from endearingly off-key to surprisingly proficient, there’s likely to be some entertainment value to be found. Let’s see if “Who Are You Fest” delivers something more substantial than just another round of fleeting, manufactured suspense.
