The iconic culinary competition MasterChef returns for another new episode, continuing the intense culinary heats of its twentieth season. Twelve talented amateur cooks step into the kitchen, eager to impress judges John and Gregg and secure their spot in the quarter-finals.
The episode, airing on Tuesday 16 April on BBC One, begins with the “Basic to Brilliant” challenge, where the first six contestants aim to transform staple ingredients into culinary masterpieces. Knowing that only four MasterChef aprons are up for grabs, the pressure is on to create dishes that celebrate the ordinary in an extraordinary way. The two cooks who manage to elevate their humble ingredients to majestic heights will earn their places in the next round, proudly donning their MasterChef aprons.
For the remaining four contestants, the pressure intensifies as they face a brunch challenge with a twist. Tasked with creating a dish featuring poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, they are given free rein to incorporate additional brunch favorites such as avocado, bacon, mushrooms, and smoked salmon. With only two more spots available in the next round, the cooks must perfect their poached eggs and hollandaise to impress the judges and avoid the risk of rubbery eggs and split sauce.
In the final showdown, the four remaining contestants prepare a two-course menu in just one hour and fifteen minutes for a panel of esteemed diners: MasterChef champions Dr. Saliha Mahmood-Ahmed (2017) and Thomas Frake (2020), along with semi-finalist Nisha Parmar (2018). The contestants aim to deliver clean plates and rave reviews, knowing that the diners’ opinions will heavily influence the judges’ final decision.
With one more contestant missing out on the quarter-final spot, the episode builds anticipation as three cooks move forward, inching closer to their dream of claiming the coveted MasterChef title.
