Maternal Series Finale (Acorn TV, Monday, December 2, 2024)

Maternal

“Maternal” wraps its run with another two back-to-back episodes. Will these final hours deliver a satisfying conclusion for our trio of doctor moms, or will it leave viewers feeling like a rushed discharge? Acorn TV subscribers can find out Monday, December 2, when episodes 5 and 6 drop.

Episode 5 throws each woman into a new crisis. Catherine’s vying for a coveted Consultant position, but the competition is cutthroat. Maryam, always the steady one, faces a medical emergency with a premature labor. And Helen? Well, she stumbles upon a secret, the kind that could reshape everything. Considering this is the penultimate episode, one imagines these crises will escalate quickly.

The final hour (episode 6) brings a reckoning. Maryam and Catherine find themselves at an investigation meeting, no doubt forced to confront some uncomfortable truths. Meanwhile, Helen deals with the fallout from Guy’s actions. By the time the credits roll, each woman will make choices that could define her future, both professionally and personally.

For those unfamiliar, “Maternal” charts the post-COVID landscape of Britain’s National Health Service through the eyes of three mothers juggling careers and kids. Parminder Nagra (“Bend It Like Beckham,” “ER”) plays Maryam, Lara Pulver (“Sherlock,” “The Split”) takes on the role of Catherine, and Lisa McGrillis (“George Gently,” “Sex Education”) rounds out the trio as Helen. The series gave us a realistic look at the pressures facing working mothers in a demanding field.

Show maker ITV has confirmed there won’t be a second season, so this is truly the end of the road for “Maternal.” Catch the final two episodes on Monday, December 2, airing from 3:01 AM-4:00 AM EST on Acorn TV.
