Matlock: Crash Helmets On (CBS, Thursday, February 6, 2025)

CBS’s rebooted Matlock continues its streak of, shall we say, unconventional legal tactics. This time, it’s not just Matty (Kathy Bates) bending the rules; she’s dragging Sarah (Skye P. Marshall) along for the ride. In “Crash Helmets On,” the duo tackles a wrongful death suit, and their investigation takes them where few legal teams dare to tread: a senior living facility.

But they’re not just visiting; they’re moving in. Sort of. Matty, in a move that’s either brilliantly insightful or utterly bonkers (or perhaps both), goes undercover as a grandmother, with Sarah posing as her granddaughter. It’s a classic bait-and-switch, designed to get them close to the residents and, presumably, uncover the truth behind the suspicious death.

One imagines the episode will be filled with the usual assortment of awkward encounters, near-discoveries, and Matty’s trademark sharp wit deployed to deflect suspicion. The setting itself presents a, complicated, web of potential negligence, overlooked details, and perhaps even deliberate wrongdoing. This isn’t just about finding a culprit; it’s about exposing systemic issues within elder care, a topic that’s often swept under the rug.

The success of their mission hinges on their ability to maintain their cover, gather credible evidence, and, of course, avoid blowing their cover in a spectacularly embarrassing fashion. It’s a high-wire act, and with Matty involved, there’s always the potential for things to go hilariously, gloriously wrong.
