In this fourth episode of Matt Baker: Travels with Mum & Dad, the Baker family embarks on a trip to Scarborough, a beloved English seaside resort with a rich history. They start their journey at Scarborough Spa, renowned for its healing spring waters, and are wowed by the elegant Sun Court, home to Britain’s last professional seaside orchestra.
The family then ventures to the Harbour Bar, Yorkshire’s longest-running ice cream shop, where they meet the owner, Giulian Alonzi, and learn about the shop’s enduring legacy while crafting their own unique ice cream creations.
Down at the harbour, the Bakers board the Galleon Andalucía, a meticulously handcrafted replica of a 17th-century Spanish spice ship. They step back in time as they explore the ship and hear tales of its global voyages. On the beach, donkeys await Matt and Janice, a beloved Victorian tradition that continues to delight visitors. The family then ventures to Scarborough Castle, perched atop the headland, where they uncover the site’s fascinating past and take in breathtaking views.
The Bakers continue their adventures by riding on the town’s innovative tramway and conclude their day with a unique spectacle at Peasholm Park: a thrilling naval battle reenactment using 20-foot manned model ships, which takes place three times a week.
