Nine has brought veteran media executive Matt James onboard as its new Chief Sales Officer, signaling a clear push to make bigger waves in the digital video world. James will report directly to CEO Matt Stanton and takes the permanent role after acting in the position since December 2024.
He’s certainly familiar with Nine, having previously served as Managing Director of Nine Melbourne and held important roles in their digital arm, Mi9, as well as within the company’s Transformation team focusing on strategy.
With 35 years in the industry, including top jobs at Zenith Media and Publicis Media, James brings a deep well of experience to the position. His first big task? To really sharpen Nine’s digital video strategy – a crucial step as the network looks to compete more strongly against the global streaming players.
As the media world continues to change rapidly, James is stressing the importance of focusing on clients and working more closely together across the TV industry. Nine’s CEO, Matt Stanton, pointed to James’ strong digital background and clear ideas for the network’s path forward, “Matt James is a high-calibre media executive with impressive global experience who has a strong vision for Nine,” he remarked.
This appointment shows Nine is serious about being a major force in the ever-changing world of video content. It seems like a smart decision, bringing in someone who knows the industry inside-out and already understands how Nine operates. While it’s too early to call it a completely “new era,” having James leading sales certainly seems to put Nine in a solid position to tackle the hurdles ahead in the competitive market.
