Max Pulls the Plug on Chuck Lorre’s Bookie After Two Seasons

Bookie

The comedy series Bookie, starring Sebastian Maniscalco, has been cancelled by the streaming service Max after two seasons. The show, which followed a Los Angeles bookie dealing with the legalization of sports gambling, premiered in November 2023, with its second season airing in December 2024.

Here’s What Happened: Max has decided not to renew Bookie for a third season. The show, created by Chuck Lorre (Two and a Half Men) and Nick Bakay, featured Maniscalco as Danny Colavito, a veteran bookie. The final episode, “A Whale in Pomona,” aired on January 30, 2025.

What This Means Now: Fans of the show will not see any further episodes. While Max praised the creators, cast, and comedic aspects of the series, it ultimately chose not to continue the story. The series ran for two seasons, comprising a total of 16 episodes.

The Bigger Picture: The cancellation highlights the competitive nature of the streaming landscape, where even shows from established creators like Chuck Lorre aren’t guaranteed long-term survival. Bookie also starred Omar Dorsey, Andrea Anders, Vanessa Ferlito, Jorge Garcia, Maxim Swinton, Rob Corddry, and Selina Kaye. Charlie Sheen, of Two and a Half Men fame, even made guest appearances as himself. Despite this the show was still canned.
