The true crime docuseries The Wonderland Massacre & The Secret History of Hollywood is set to premiere on MGM+ starting September 8, 2024, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The four-episode series, based on Michael Connelly’s hit Audible podcast, is directed by Alison Ellwood and executive produced by Connelly, Ellwood, Jen Casey, Nick Gilhool, Eli Holzman, Aaron Saidman, and Rick Jackson.
Best-selling crime novelist Connelly, known for Bosch and The Lincoln Lawyer, investigates the infamous 1981 Wonderland Avenue massacre in Hollywood, a case that has fascinated people for over four decades. This gruesome quadruple murder, involving porn star John Holmes, drug dealers, and a host of colorful characters, inspired the film Boogie Nights.
Through noir-style interviews, Connelly, a former crime beat reporter for The Los Angeles Times, seeks to uncover new details about the case with original detectives, prosecutors, and undercover cops. The series weaves together rare archival footage, photos, and a cast of intriguing individuals, including Liberace’s boyfriend, Scott Thorson, who may hold key information about the night of the murders.
Thorson’s testimony and his larger-than-life stories are central to the docuseries, leaving viewers to question the truth after four decades of uncertainty.
The Wonderland Massacre & The Secret History of Hollywood is distributed worldwide by Amazon MGM Studios Distribution.
