The perpetually lethal villages of Midsomer County are set to claim more victims. ITV has recommissioned the enduringly popular detective drama Midsomer Murders for its 26th series, reinforcing its status as one of television’s most durable, and deadly, properties. Four new feature-length mysteries have been ordered, bringing the show’s total episode count to 148.
Neil Dudgeon will return as DCI Barnaby, the steady hand tasked with solving an alarming number of homicides in the picturesque English countryside. He will be joined by his trusted partner DS Winter, played by Nick Hendrix, as well as series regulars Annette Badland as pathologist Dr. Fleur Perkins and Fiona Dolman as Sarah Barnaby.
The renewal speaks to the show’s incredible longevity and value to the network. It remains a massive international export, airing in nearly 200 territories. In the UK, it has found a new life on streaming, with its dedicated 24/7 FAST channel ranking as the most-watched on the ITVX platform. The brand continues to expand, with a theatrical stage version of the show’s very first episode slated to debut later this year.
