Jane Austen’s world gets a fresh perspective in “Miss Austen on Masterpiece,” coming to PBS this Sunday. This new drama imagines a story centered on Jane’s devoted sister, Cassandra (played by Patsy Ferran). Set years after Jane’s death in 1830, the story finds Cassandra visiting Kintbury. Her mission? To find letters Jane wrote to their friend Eliza – letters she fears might reveal secrets best kept hidden.
While it’s a fictional take, the heart of the story is really about the deep bond between the two sisters. As Cassandra searches for these potentially revealing letters, she’s also working through her own grief and trying to understand the hidden parts of her sister’s life. The series features a strong cast, including Liv Hill, Alfred Enoch, and Keeley Hawes, and looks set to be a compelling blend of historical fiction and family drama.
Tune in for “Miss Austen on Masterpiece,” premiering Sunday, May 4, at 9:00 PM ET on PBS.
