Miss Marple Set for Possible TV Return: New Adaptation in the Works

TV News Just In

Agatha Christie’s iconic detective, Miss Marple, is possibly making a comeback. James Pritchard, Christie’s great-grandson, confirmed a new adaptation is in development, speaking to Radio Times recently.

Here’s the Lowdown: Pritchard revealed he’s been working to bring a new Miss Marple project to fruition for a long time. He acknowledged that Hercule Poirot, another of Christie’s famous detectives, has often overshadowed Marple. He praised the original stories, calling the character “underestimated.”

What This Means Now: While details are scarce, this confirms a new Miss Marple adaptation is actively being pursued. This news follows an upcoming BBC adaptation of Christie’s Towards Zero, which Pritchard described as “a little lighter” in tone, suggesting a possible direction for future Christie adaptations. Towards Zero premieres on BBC iPlayer on Sunday, March 2 from 6 am, and airs on BBC One at 9 pm, and features Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ella Lily Hyland, Mimi Keene and Anjelica Huston.

The Bigger Picture: This signifies a potential resurgence of interest in Miss Marple, a character previously portrayed by Joan Hickson in the 1980s BBC series, and by Geraldine McEwan and Julia McKenzie in later ITV versions. Pritchard’s comments also highlight Christie’s creation of strong female characters, reflecting the author’s own personality as both shy and forceful.
