Nature has a funny way of reminding us who’s really in charge, and in this week’s “Moonshiners,” it’s Hurricane Helene. The storm’s floodwaters have wreaked havoc across Appalachia, leaving the moonshiners to contend with more than just the usual risks of their trade. Forget the law, it’s Mother Nature they have to worry about now.
Mike and Jerry, never ones to shy away from a challenge (or a potentially disastrous idea), find themselves facing a major setback when their newly built submarine still gets swept away by the flood. One can’t help but wonder if this elaborate contraption was truly necessary, or if they were just looking for an excuse to play with underwater gadgets. Either way, it’s back to the drawing board, or perhaps back to simpler methods, for these two.
Tickle, ever the voice of reason (at least when he’s not actively participating in questionable activities), attempts to steer Josh away from his dangerous racing hobby. Given Josh’s track record of accidents, it’s a valid concern, and likely a futile one. Will Tickle’s words of wisdom fall on deaf ears, or will Josh finally see the light and hang up his racing helmet?
Meanwhile, Richard finds himself in a pickle when a special order requires a hard-to-find fruit. Sourcing ingredients for moonshine is usually a straightforward affair, but with the region still reeling from the hurricane, it becomes a Herculean task.
“Floodwater Runs Deep” airs Tuesday, January 28, at 8:00 PM on Discovery.
