Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse return for a new series of angling adventures, this time with a focus on rivers that hold a personal meaning for them. They begin their journey on the banks of the River Itchen in Hampshire, where Paul introduces Bob to a rarely fished and unspoilt stretch of the unique chalk stream. Their target is the elusive wild brown trout, a fish that will test all of Paul’s expertise and Bob’s patience.
This trip is about more than just the catch. Paul reconnects with his old friend James Murray, a passionate campaigner fighting to protect these special rivers from decline. As they discuss the worrying drop in the salmon population, their trip becomes a poignant reflection on what these waterways mean to them. Will they find the beautiful trout they seek, and what heart-healthy culinary delight will Bob rustle up on the riverbank this time?
Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing airs Sunday October 26, at 9:00 PM on BBC Two.
