History Channel’s Mountain Men returns with a new episode, “Running Down a Dream,” promising another dose of wilderness grit and high-stakes survival. This week, the series trades its usual blend of backwoods ingenuity for something a bit more…competitive, with Lauro stepping into the frosty fray of the Iditarod. Yes, that Iditarod. The one with the dogs. A thousand miles of frozen tundra, sixteen dogs with questionable bladder control, and one man’s quest for glory (or at least a decent night’s sleep without the howling). It’s a stark departure from his usual mountain routine, but hey, variety is the spice of frostbite, right?
Meanwhile, Bret and Ivy apparently haven’t gotten enough adrenaline from their regular mountain lion staring contests. This time, they’re setting their sights higher – literally – heading into the Alaskan mountains for a grizzly bear hunt. Because apparently, risking life and limb at ground level just isn’t extreme enough. We’ll see how their high-altitude hunting strategy plays out, assuming they can actually spot a grizzly through the constant snow squalls and existential dread.
And then there’s Jake. Remember Jake? The guy who had that minor disagreement with a mountain lion last season? Well, he’s back. Still hasn’t learned his lesson, apparently. He’s returning to the wilderness, presumably to finish that conversation with the oversized kitty cat. One can only hope he’s packed a bigger stick this time, or at least a really good pair of running shoes.
Finally, Paul is taking a break from the death-defying feats to do some actual work. He’s wrapping up his trapping season and hauling his precious furs to the trading post. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most dangerous part of mountain life is negotiating a fair price for beaver pelts.
