In 2008, Saenz was convicted of killing five kidney dialysis patients and injuring five others at a clinic in Lufkin, Texas.
At the time of the murders, Saenz was 34, married with two children, and struggling with substance dependence. Her employment history raised red flags, including at least four previous terminations from healthcare jobs and a pattern of providing false information on job applications.
Investigators uncovered crucial evidence, including internet search history related to bleach poisoning in blood and its detectability in dialysis lines on Saenz’s computer. They also examined blood tubing, IV bags, and syringes used by the patients. Saenz’s lawyer, however, argued for a life sentence, assuring jurors that she posed no ongoing threat to society.
