Well, here we are again in the deceptively quaint, increasingly corpse-ridden burg at the center of FOX’s Murder in a Small Town. This week’s episode, “Family Concerns,” seemingly ups the ante, giving Detective Alberg not one, but two bodies to puzzle over. Because one murder in a small town is apparently never enough.
Two women turn up dead in the local forest, arranged in eerily similar positions. Naturally, this raises all sorts of questions, none of which I’m going to pretend to have answers for. Is this the work of a serial killer with a flair for the dramatic? Or just a really weird coincidence in a town that specializes in weird coincidences? Only time, and hopefully some moderately competent detective work from Alberg, will tell.
The episode title, “Family Concerns,” hints at possible connections between the victims and their families. Which, let’s face it, is almost always the case in these types of shows. Expect some skeletons to come rattling out of some very cramped closets, because small towns, as we’ve learned, are basically pressure cookers for long-simmering family secrets.
Rossif Sutherland and Kristin Kreuk are back as Detective Karl Alberg and Cassandra Lee, respectively. I’m sure Kreuk continues to do that wistful, distant thing that she does so well. Sutherland, meanwhile, will probably grimace a lot while squinting at clues. Hey, it wouldn’t be Murder in a Small Town without some dramatic squinting.
Murder in a Small Town airs Tuesday, November 19 at 8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT on FOX.
