TLC’s My 600-Lb. Life: Where Are They Now? returns on Wednesday May 1, with an update on Nathan and Amber, a couple who previously appeared in Season 10 of the show. The episode offers insight into their lives after undergoing weight-loss surgery and their continued efforts to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
In the previous season, Nathan and Amber’s story stood out as one of the more memorable storylines. Nathan, a high school theater teacher, sought help from Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, also known as Dr. Now, due to his weight interfering with his career. Nathan’s weight was not only impacting his profession but also his marriage to Amber.
At the beginning of his journey, Nathan weighed 607 pounds, while Amber weighed 502 pounds. Their relationship was strained due to the physical toll of their weight and the dynamic of Amber acting as Nathan’s caregiver. The couple recognized that their diets and unhealthy lifestyle were not only detrimental to their health but also their marriage.
Dr. Now, known for his tough-love approach, warned them of the severity of their situation, stating, “This is your life. You’re throwing it away, killing yourself for the food… If you keep this up, I guarantee you, neither of you will be here five years from now.”
Nathan and Amber committed to losing weight together, and by the end of their segment, Nathan had lost nearly 250 pounds. However, maintaining weight loss is a continuous challenge. The upcoming episode, “Nathan and Amber,” provides a glimpse into their lives two years later.
Nathan has made significant progress, shedding pounds and returning to his passion for teaching. He has embarked on his 16th year of teaching high school theater while also pursuing a side hustle as a server in a local steakhouse. Nathan’s determination to lead a healthier life is evident, and he continues to set new goals, including writing a play and buying a house for his family.
Amber, on the other hand, faces challenges in her weight-loss journey. She previously underwent weight-loss surgery as a teenager but has struggled to qualify for a second surgery. Despite this setback, Amber remains committed to a healthy eating plan, as seen through her online photos. She is also pursuing her dream job, working towards becoming a special education teacher while currently serving as a special education diagnostician clerk for their local school district.
