The HBO Original drama series “My Brilliant Friend” is set to debut its fourth and final season on Monday, September 9, at 9:00 PM ET/PT. The 10-episode season will air weekly on HBO and stream on Max.
Based on the bestselling novels by Elena Ferrante, the series follows the story of Elena Greco and her most important friend, Raffaella “Lila” Cerullo, across six decades, starting from their childhood in 1950s Naples.
The fourth installment, titled “Story of the Lost Child,” focuses on the adult lives of Elena and Lila in the late 1980s, a turbulent time in Italy’s political and social landscape. The two women cope with motherhood, careers, and personal challenges while also facing betrayals, threats, and natural disasters. They find themselves living in the same neighborhood once again.
The cast includes Alba Rohrwacher as Elena Greco, Irene Maiorino as Raffaella Cerullo.
“My Brilliant Friend” is an HBO-RAI series, with the fourth season based on Ferrante’s novel “My Brilliant Friend: The Story of the Lost Child.” It is produced by Lorenzo Mieli for Fremantle Italy, The Apartment, and Wildside, in collaboration with Rai Fiction and HBO Entertainment. The story and screenplays are crafted by Elena Ferrante, Francesco Piccolo, Laura Paolucci, and Saverio Costanzo, with this season directed by Laura Bispuri.
