Netflix dips its toe into the sometimes-murky waters of Italian family dramedy with “My Family” (originally titled “Storia della mia famiglia”), arriving Wednesday, February 19, 2025. The series focuses on Fausto, played by Eduardo Scarpetta, on the—let’s just say eventful—last day of his life. While the premise might sound a tad maudlin, the series aims to explore the full spectrum of family life: the joy, the passion, the occasionally overwhelming love for one’s children, and the ever-present challenge of facing the future.
“My Family” centers on what Netflix describes as an “unlikely family,” saddled with unforeseen responsibilities courtesy of Fausto. Over six episodes, the series chronicles the family’s highs and lows, the shared laughter, the inevitable mistakes, and the underlying current of everyone trying their best, even when it doesn’t quite look that way.
Joining Scarpetta are Massimiliano Caiazzo, Vanessa Scalera, and Cristiana Dell’Anna, among others. While American audiences may not be familiar with these names, the trailer suggests a cast capable of navigating the emotional complexities of familial relationships. Whether the series can successfully balance the comedic and dramatic elements, however, remains to be seen. Netflix is betting on global appeal, making “My Family” available worldwide, exclusively on its platform.
“My Family” is produced by Palomar and written by Filippo Gravino and Elisa Dondi. Claudio Cupellini directs all six episodes.
