The swampy enigma that is Blind Frog Ranch is back. Discovery’s Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch returns for a fourth season of puzzling finds, dubious theories, and enough mud to stock a respectable spa. The season premiere, “Death Rumble,” airing Wednesday, November 20, finds ranch owner Duane Ollinger and his ever-optimistic crew still convinced that Aztec gold lurks somewhere beneath the murky depths of his Utah property.
This time around, the Ollingers have stumbled upon a new cave – because apparently, three cavernous black holes weren’t enough. Geologist Eric Drummond and Chad Ollinger are tapped to lead the expedition into the unknown, presumably armed with more than just flashlights and blind faith. One wonders if they’ve packed extra batteries for their methane detectors, given the ranch’s penchant for flammable surprises.
While some brave the subterranean world, others broaden the search. Duane sets his sights on the Bead Site, drawn by mysterious smoke vents that may or may not offer clues to the ranch’s hidden riches. Meanwhile, ever the international man of mystery, ranch hand James Fayad ventures all the way to Mexico City, ostensibly to explore the ancient Aztec capital. One can’t help but question the cost-benefit analysis of such a trip, but hey, who am I to judge a man’s quest for historical context, however tenuously linked to buried treasure?
With a title like “Death Rumble,” the premiere episode seems to suggest a certain level of peril, or at the very least, a spirited game of rock-paper-scissors gone wrong. Will this season finally yield tangible proof of Aztec gold, or will it be another installment of intriguing yet inconclusive findings? Tune in to Discovery on Wednesday, November 20, at 10:10 PM ET to find out whether the Ollingers finally strike gold, or just strike out again.
