Narrow Escapes is a brand-new series that explores the vibrant community living on the UK’s canal network. From retirees seeking freedom to young people escaping the cost-of-living crisis, the show explores the diverse reasons people are drawn to canal life.
In the first episode, airing on Channel 4 on Monday 29 April, we meet Carrie, a young woman from Doncaster who is downsizing from a three-bedroom house to a permanently moored narrowboat named Mabel, which she plans to redecorate.
In Derbyshire, father-son duo Paul and Chris run a floating pizzeria, The Waltzing Matilda, travelling through the canals of the Peak District. Solo boater Emma takes her newly renovated historic narrowboat, The Dawn Piper, on an epic adventure. The series also visits the Llangollen horse-drawn boats in Wales, offering a glimpse into the past when canal boats were towed by horses.
Narrow Escapes provides a unique perspective on modern life on Britain’s canals, showcasing the realities, challenges, and joys of canal living.
