NBC has ordered a pilot for a new, untitled comedy focused on a Native community center in Oakland, California. This is the network’s third comedy pilot pickup this season, joining projects from Tracy Morgan and another titled “Stumble.”

Here’s the Lowdown: The show, currently called the Untitled Ornelas, Keliiaa and Wilson Project, centers on the employees of a Native community center. The series will follow their efforts to keep the center running while supporting those they serve. Sierra Teller Ornelas (Rutherford Falls) will serve as showrunner and executive producer, alongside writers and executive producers Jackie Keliiaa and Bobby Wilson (Reservation Dogs). Morgan Sackett (Hacks, Veep) also executive produces.

What This Means Now: This pilot order signals NBC’s continued investment in diverse storytelling. With Ornelas, Keliiaa, and Wilson – all with experience writing authentic Native characters and stories – at the helm, the project has a strong creative foundation.

The Bigger Picture: The comedy joins two other Universal Television projects at NBC, all three show that there are deals with the network. The focus on a Native community center offers the potential for both humor and social commentary, reflecting a growing trend towards showcasing underrepresented communities on network television.
