The Emmy® nominated series ‘Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom Protecting the Wild’ returns for its second season on October 5, airing on Saturday mornings on NBC.
Wildlife experts Peter Gros and Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant are once again focusing on critically endangered species and the efforts to save them. The new season will present inspiring stories of global cooperation to protect the planet’s most vulnerable wildlife.
One episode will explore the Pan American Conservation Administration, examining the crucial role of sloths in tropical rainforests. The segment will display the rehabilitation of orphaned and injured sloths, with the goal of returning them safely to the wild.
Another episode will investigate conservation initiatives in Texas aimed at saving endangered ocelots, known as “mini jaguars.”
The series will also highlight Zoo Miami and the Panamanian Government’s efforts to protect the endangered harpy eagle. This includes Zoo Miami’s breeding program and the legacy of Wild Kingdom’s original host, Jim Fowler, who raised awareness about harpy eagles in the 1960s.
The show will also head to the American Prairie Reserve in Montana and the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming. These segments will explore how organizations are working to restore free-range bison to rebalance the prairie’s ecosystem.
The show will also address the threats facing whale sharks, including overfishing, habitat loss, and shipping vessel collisions. Georgia Aquarium’s research and field studies will also be featured.
Plus, the series will highlight the threats to North Atlantic right whales from lobster pot nets.
Wild Kingdom Protecting the Wild will air on Saturday mornings on NBC from October 5.
