Forget “something blue,” the NCIS team is bringing something entirely different to the wedding party: handcuffs. In “For Better or Worse,” airing Monday, February 3rd at 9:00 PM ET/PT on CBS, the agents are ditching their standard-issue gear for wedding attire in a risky undercover operation aimed at taking down a notorious mob family.

While the specifics remain under wraps, the central gimmick involves two NCIS agents posing as a happy couple about to tie the knot. Presumably, the mobsters will be attending this faux-nuptial celebration, giving the NCIS team the opportunity to close in. Of course, undercover work is never straightforward. The potential for blown covers and botched vows is high. We’re left wondering: just how elaborate is this fake wedding? Will we be treated to a full-blown ceremony, complete with bad dancing and even worse cake? Or is it a more targeted affair, a small gathering designed to trap a specific few within the organization?

The real question, of course, is which two agents will be playing the betrothed couple. Given the inherent awkwardness of this assignment, one imagines the writers will opt for a pairing with some pre-existing tension or comedic potential. Could we see Torres and Bishop reluctantly exchanging rings? McGee forced to endure a fake first dance with Kasie? Or perhaps it’s Parker’s turn to stumble through the charade of marital bliss. Regardless of the pairing, it’s safe to say this operation will require a considerable amount of improvisation and quick thinking. The mob isn’t exactly known for its forgiveness.

With a script penned by Marco Schnabel and direction by Michael Zinberg, “For Better or Worse” could either be a refreshing change of pace or a cringe-worthy misstep.

“For Better or Worse” airs on CBS this Monday at 9:00 PM ET/PT. You can also stream the episode live or on-demand on Paramount+.
