Netflix is dialing up its scripted slate in the Nordics with its first medical drama out of the region—an untitled Norwegian ER series set to drop globally in Fall 2026.
The eight-episode drama, set inside a pressure-cooker emergency ward, comes from creators Harald Rosenløw-Eeg and Jan Trygve Røyneland, the writing duo behind Norway’s Oscar entry The King’s Choice. They’re joined in the writers’ room by Ane Isungset and Maren Skolem, both known for their work in grounded, character-driven dramas.
Oslo-based indie Klynge is producing in its first outing with the streamer, marking a notable expansion for the company into premium TV. Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken, best known for his feature work, will make his episodic directing debut, teaming with Made in Oslo helmer Liv Karin Dahlstrøm. Esben Selvig, producing for Klynge, also brings an offbeat profile to the project as a member of the Norwegian rap group Klovner i Kamp.
Headlining the cast is Sara Khorami (Nothing to Laugh About, Witch Hunt) as Sofia, a driven surgeon abruptly reassigned to a volatile ER ward where chaos is the norm and rank means little. The series follows her reluctant plunge into frontline trauma care, where high stakes and emotional triage collide. At its core, it’s a story about professional detachment breaking down in a place where human connection becomes unavoidable.
Filming is set to take place in Norway. Casting for supporting roles is underway.
The series adds to Netflix’s broader international drama pipeline, but signals a calculated genre swing in the Nordics. While the region has delivered a steady stream of crime, noir, and family sagas for the platform, this move into high-stakes medical storytelling targets a different audience—fans of pace-driven ensemble dramas with emotional torque.
Release is slated for Q4 2026.
