The Crown, Emma Corrin to play Princess Diana

Grantchester alumni Emma Corrin is join the The Crown for it’s fourth season, she will take on the role of Princess Diana as the drama moves into the later decades of the 20th century.

Emma, who also has a major role in upcoming Warner/Epix series Pennyworth (a 1960’s London set about the early days of Bruce “Batman” Wayne’s butler Alfred Pennyworth), was naturally pleased at getting the role saying “beyond excited and honoured to be joining The Crown for its fourth season. I have been glued to the show since the first episode and to think I’m now joining this incredibly talented acting family is just surreal. Princess Diana was an icon, and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To be given the chance to explore her through Peter Morgan’s writing is the most exceptional opportunity, and I will strive to do her justice!”

Series creator Peter Morgan was equally impressed by Emma saying “Emma is a brilliant talent who immediately captivated us when she came in for the part of Diana Spencer. As well as having the innocence and beauty of a young Diana, she also has, in abundance, the range and complexity to portray an extraordinary woman who went from anonymous teenager to becoming the most iconic woman of her generation.”

Emma’s stock is very much on the rise, besides The Crown and Pennyworth she also has a role in big screen movie Misbehaviour, playing Miss South Africa. The movie is based on the true story of the 1970 Miss World contest which a group from the Women’s Liberation Movement tried to undermine.

Meanwhile season 3 of The Crown, with Olivia Colman taking over from Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth, will debut on Netflix at some stage this year.
