The cobbled streets of Poplar are about to welcome a new face, as Call the Midwife returns with another dose of heartwarming drama. Sister Catherine, a trainee midwife, arrives at Nonnatus House, ready to learn the ropes and assist the seasoned nuns and nurses in their tireless work. But it’s not just new arrivals shaking things up; Dr. Turner finds himself wrestling with a complicated ethical dilemma when a patient requests an abortion. While legal at the time (May 1970), the procedure was fraught with social stigma and practical obstacles, forcing Dr. Turner to confront difficult choices.

In this Sunday’s episode, Nurse Crane takes Sister Catherine under her wing, guiding her through a particularly tricky case. The arrival of a fresh-faced nun will no doubt offer a jolt of optimism, while Peggy Wrigley’s appeal to Dr. Turner will likely test the emotional limits of both doctor and patient. Will Peggy be able to go through with her decision and what will the fallout look like?
