Peter Sutherland, the low-level FBI agent who found himself at the center of a conspiracy in the first season of Netflix’s The Night Agent, is back. But this time, the hunter has become the hunted. The trailer for the second season dropped today, revealing a Sutherland on the run, framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Gone is the relative safety of the night action desk; now, he’s dodging bullets and clandestine operatives in a desperate bid to clear his name.

The source of Sutherland’s troubles? A leak within the very organization he swore to protect—the CIA. Forced to go AWOL, Sutherland finds himself in an increasingly precarious position, relying on the skills he honed in the previous season to stay one step ahead of his pursuers. Adding to the complicated web of intrigue is the arrival of Alice, played by Brittany Snow, a seasoned operative who becomes Sutherland’s unlikely mentor in the bustling backdrop of Thailand. Alice’s words of caution—”relationships are dangerous”—serve as a stark reminder of the stakes involved in their shadowy world, hinting at the trials ahead for Sutherland and his girlfriend, Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan).

Though the trailer keeps many details under wraps, it does offer glimpses of a looming threat involving the sale of experimental weapons, a crisis Sutherland feels compelled to address head-on. Actor Gabriel Basso hints that season two will explore Sutherland’s “inner turmoil” as he confronts this new level of danger, a danger that looks to threaten both his mission and his relationship with Rose. The stakes are demonstrably higher, the action more intense, and the conspiracy far-reaching.

The Night Agent season two hits Netflix Tuesday, January 23, 2024. The series has already been renewed for a third season.
