Nine is planting a flag in the heart of U.S. politics. The Australian media giant is opening a new Washington D.C. bureau later this month, expanding its international news footprint with a base just 300 meters from the White House.
Veteran U.S. correspondent Lauren Tomasi, previously stationed in Los Angeles, has been tapped to lead the new post as Nine’s Washington Correspondent. The move gives Nine a second U.S. base, complementing its long-established L.A. bureau, which has been in continuous operation for over four decades.
The new hub will serve as a frontline asset for Nine’s entire news portfolio—including 9News, 60 Minutes, A Current Affair, Today, and digital—delivering direct coverage of U.S. political developments and their global reverberations. It also positions the network to track breaking news and high-stakes moments in real time from the Capitol, as America navigates a post-election landscape marked by volatility at home and abroad.
The move comes amid escalating international tensions and mounting public interest in how Washington’s decisions ripple through global markets and diplomatic arenas. Tomasi, who has reported on U.S. elections, terror attacks, and natural disasters during her tenure, brings frontline experience to the new posting.
Fiona Dear, Nine’s Director of News and Current Affairs, said the expansion will give Australians sharper insight into U.S. power dynamics as they unfold.
