So, the leaves are turning, the snow is threatening, and the National Geographic cameras are still rolling. It can only mean one thing: the season finale of Northwoods Survival. In “The Final Push,” airing Tuesday, December 10, we find our intrepid band of Canadian homesteaders facing the ultimate deadline. Will their wilderness dream homes transform from blueprints and wishful thinking into actual, habitable structures? Or will the unforgiving realities of backcountry construction leave them out in the cold, both literally and metaphorically?

This season has tracked the blood, sweat, and probably a concerning number of splinters shed by these plucky Canucks as they’ve wrestled with logs, battled black flies, and contemplated the existential dread that comes with realizing you’re three days’ hike from the nearest hardware store. They’ve attempted to build not just houses, but a life, in a remote corner of the Canadian wilderness. We’ve witnessed the inevitable trials and tribulations: the power tool mishaps, the supply shortages, the moments of profound self-doubt when a beaver dam seems like a more realistic housing option.

The finale will present the culmination of these efforts. After weeks of chopping, sawing, and occasionally cursing the fickle nature of Mother Nature, the homesteaders are in a race against the elements. With winter’s icy grip tightening, they’ll need to summon every ounce of ingenuity, grit, and maybe a little duct tape, to finish their projects.

Will their off-grid utopias materialize? Will they achieve self-sufficiency, or will they be forced to admit defeat and retreat to the comforts of civilization? Tune in to witness the triumphs and setbacks, the last-minute scrambles, and the inevitable pronouncements about the transformative power of nature. After all, what’s a good survival show without a healthy dose of existential reflection?

Northwoods Survival airs Tuesdays at 10 PM on National Geographic.
