“Building Stuff: Reach It!” – the title may lack a certain poetic flair, but this is NOVA, and when it comes to exploring the hows and whys of human ingenuity, they rarely disappoint. This week’s episode sets its sights on the history of human exploration, from our earliest attempts to extend our reach to our current ambitions to touch the stars.

The episode promises a closer look at how engineers are developing technologies for extreme environments, both on Earth and beyond. Expect to see marvels of engineering designed to withstand the crushing depths of the ocean and the unforgiving vacuum of space. And yes, there’s even a segment on skyscrapers – because reaching for the sky is just as much a testament to human ambition as reaching for the deepest trench or the farthest planet.

We’ll also get an inside look at the design and construction of these impressive feats of engineering. Watching stuff get built is inherently fascinating.

“Building Stuff: Reach It!” will be a journey through the evolution of human mobility and our inherent drive to explore the unknown. It looks set to be both educational and entertaining, which is NOVA at its best.
