NZ Drama After The Party Acquired by Channel 4
Channel 4 has secured the UK broadcasting rights for After The Party, an acclaimed six-part drama produced by Lingo Pictures. Set in Aotearoa/New Zealand, the series follows a woman named Penny Wilding, played by Robyn Malcolm, who finds herself losing everything after accusing her husband of a sex crime against her daughter’s teenage friend.
Penny is described as a science teacher, basketball coach, environmental activist, mother, and grandmother. She is known for speaking her mind and isn’t afraid to confront difficult topics. However, when she accused her husband Phil, portrayed by Peter Mullan, of the crime five years ago, nobody believed her.
As Penny’s ex-husband returns to their coastal town of Wellington, her daughter urges her to let go of the accusations and move on. But as past emotions resurface, Penny is faced with a choice – prioritize the truth or rebuild her relationships with those around her.
After The Party comes from award-winning producers Lingo Pictures and Luminous Beast. It was originally commissioned by TVNZ in New Zealand and will be distributed by ITV Studios.
Helen Bowden, Producer of the series expressed excitement about Channel 4 airing After The Party in the UK: “Channel 4 is the perfect place for After The Party to screen… Lingo Pictures and Luminous Beast are thrilled at this news.”
Polly Scates, Head of Acquisitions at Channel 4 also shared their enthusiasm: “We’re thrilled that Channel 4 will be the UK home of After The Party… this important series is sure to keep audiences guessing and stay with them long after the final episode.”
Viewers can look forward to watching After The Party soon on Channel 4 via streaming or live broadcast.
