SBS presents a brand new episode of “Odysseus Returns,” an exploration of the legendary King Odysseus from Homer’s epic poem, The Iliad. This thought-provoking series seeks to uncover whether Odysseus was merely a fictional character or if he truly existed as a historical figure. The upcoming two-part episode premieres on Sunday 10 March at 8.20pm and can also be streamed on SBS On Demand.

Episode One takes us on an archaeological journey, where we follow Makis Metaxas as he claims to have deciphered clues in the Odyssey that led him to discover the tomb of a Mycenaean king dating back over 3000 years. This revelation leaves archaeologists dumbfounded, challenging long-held beliefs about the whereabouts of Odysseus’ city.

In Episode Two, tensions arise as Makis Metaxas and his wife Hettie Metaxas-Putman Cramer share their findings with the world. Fueled by political rivalries and fears of losing tourism revenue tied to their ancient heritage, controversy surrounds the discovery.
