In the ever-expanding universe of holiday TV movies, GAF offers “Once Upon A Christmas Wish,” a tale of small-town charm versus corporate machinations, with a dash of magical realism thrown in for good measure. The film, airing Saturday, December 7, at 8:00 PM, stars real-life couple Mario and Courtney Lopez.
Mario Lopez portrays Brian Ortega, a small-town mayor facing the daunting prospect of a major developer threatening his community’s cherished traditions. As if plucked from a classic Christmas carol, Brian’s childhood holiday wishes begin to mysteriously manifest into reality. Instead of dismissing it as a sugar plum-induced fever dream, Brian, with the help of his childhood friend Nina Meyers (Courtney Lopez), decides to harness this newfound wish-granting power to protect the town’s values.
The storyline presents a familiar yet comforting David-versus-Goliath narrative, as Brian and Nina rally their community to resist the encroaching corporate giant. The film seems likely to deliver a potent dose of holiday spirit, emphasizing the importance of community, tradition, and the enduring magic of Christmas wishes. While the premise may sound like familiar holiday fare, the Lopez pairing and the Herzlinger’s creative vision might just offer enough of a twist to make “Once Upon A Christmas Wish” stand out from the crowd. Dominic Lopez, as Young Brian Ortega, adds a further touch of family connection to this festive project.
