The first season of “Only Child” wraps up with a finale full of bittersweet farewells and carefully guarded secrets. As Ken meticulously plans a fitting send-off for Jean’s ashes, his son Richard grapples with a dilemma of his own. A big break in Norway beckons, but Richard’s keeping mum about his impending departure, leaving Ken blissfully unaware of the next chapter in his son’s life.

Ken’s plans to scatter Jean’s ashes at the football ground are met with predictable resistance from Rod. Because who needs a peaceful final resting place when you can have a debate about sporting loyalties? As the Pritchard family teeters on the brink of another meltdown, Emily steps in to offer her unique brand of advice, which may or may not involve copious amounts of wine.

“Only Child” airs Thursday, December 26, at 10:00 PM on BBC Scotland. All episodes are available on BBC iPlayer.
