Investigation Discovery’s new series, Operation Undercover, will bring viewers a raw and unfiltered look at the realities of undercover police work. Forget the slick Hollywood versions; this series focuses on the often messy, dangerous, and occasionally tedious reality of bringing down criminals. Starting Tuesday, November 12, at 10/9c, viewers can ride shotgun with officers across the country as they tackle drug traffickers, illegal arms dealers, and other assorted bad actors.
The premiere episode, “Oxford, Alabama,” centers on an operation targeting alleged fentanyl and meth traffickers. If the title doesn’t exactly scream “glamorous locale,” well, that’s kind of the point. Operation Undercover aims to skip the glitz and focus on the nuts-and-bolts of police work, even if that means spending time in Oxford, Alabama. Guiding us through these high-stakes situations is Lou Valoze, a former undercover agent with a hefty 26 years of experience facing everyone from the Chicago mob to outlaw biker gangs and domestic terrorists.
While the promise of “exclusive and unprecedented access” is standard fare for this type of show, Valoze’s presence might offer some genuinely insightful commentary. He’s seen it all and his perspective could be the key to separating the reality from the often-exaggerated portrayals of undercover life. The six-episode run will cover a range of criminal enterprises, offering a broad view of the challenges facing law enforcement. Whether Operation Undercover truly delivers a fresh take or simply retreads familiar ground, well, we’ll have to tune in to find out.
Catch the premiere of Operation Undercover on Tuesday, November 12th, at 10/9c on Investigation Discovery.
