OWN will premiere “OWN Spotlight: Luther: Never Too Much,” a documentary celebrating the life of music icon Luther Vandross, on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 9 PM ET/PT. Oprah Winfrey will provide a special introduction, underscoring the significance of the project and her personal respect for the late singer.
Directed by Dawn Porter, the film utilizes a wealth of archival footage and features interviews with music heavyweights like Jamie Foxx, Mariah Carey, Dionne Warwick, Valerie Simpson, and Roberta Flack. “Luther: Never Too Much” charts Vandross’s journey from his Harlem beginnings to global superstardom, exploring both his professional triumphs and personal challenges.
The documentary explores the complexities of Vandross’s life, examining not only his immense musical talent but also his struggles with health and personal matters. The film has already garnered critical acclaim, securing two NAACP Image Award nominations for Outstanding Documentary and Outstanding Directing.
A previously unheard Vandross rendition of The Beatles’ “Michelle” has also been released. A new greatest hits compilation, “Never Too Much: Greatest Hits,” is also available for fans. The film’s arrival on OWN follows its acquisition after debuting at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. Raindog Films and Jamie Foxx’s Foxxhole Productions produced the documentary, which promises to be a fitting tribute to Vandross’s enduring legacy.
