Master potter Keith Brymer Jones, known for his easily-triggered tears on The Great Pottery Throw Down, trades clay for construction in the second season of Our Welsh Chapel Dream. He and his partner, Marj Hogarth, are back in their 163-year-old chapel, armed with planning permission and a renewed sense of purpose. This time, their focus turns to the downstairs area of the Sunday School, which they plan to transform into living accommodations.
However, as any seasoned renovator knows, old buildings harbor secrets, and this chapel is no exception. Dry rot rears its ugly head, claiming the original staircase as its most significant victim. Undeterred, Keith and Marj maintain their commitment to using recycled and reclaimed materials whenever possible, adding an eco-conscious element to their already ambitious project.
Local builder Hew Owens lends his expertise, helping the couple realize their vision. The first order of business? Turning a former Sunday School office into a functioning kitchen. And not just any kitchen – a vintage, 80-year-old English Rose kitchen, no less. The search for a suitably unique sink is also underway, with the couple turning to British craftspeople for a bespoke creation.
Will their dream of enjoying a home-made cuppa in their new kitchen finally come true? Find out when Our Welsh Chapel Dream returns to Channel 4 on Tuesday, April 1st at 8:00 PM.
