OUT THERE: Martin Clunes Stars in Gripping New ITV Thriller

ITV and ITVX have announced the commission of “Out There,” a gripping thriller series featuring Martin Clunes and Louis Ashbourne Serkis. The show examines the impact of county lines drug dealing on a rural community, as Clunes’s character, a farmer, confronts sinister forces that threaten his family and way of life.
Written by Ed Whitmore and Marc Evans, and produced by Buffalo Pictures, the show revolves around the issue of county lines drug dealing and its consequences on a rural community.
A farmer out of his depth
The story focuses on Nathan Williams, played by Martin Clunes, a farmer who finds himself facing a harrowing situation when his peaceful rural community becomes infiltrated by criminal elements. The county lines drug dealers, who use the countryside as a base of operations, pose a threat to Nathan’s livelihood, home, and family.
As Nathan navigates through this challenging situation, viewers will witness his personal journey of self-discovery and resilience. With the legacy he cherishes hanging in the balance, Nathan must summon the strength to protect his loved ones against the encroaching dangers.
The six-part series, set to premiere on ITV1, will also be available for streaming on ITVX. The drama promises to offer a departure from Clunes’ past roles, delving into much darker territory. The actor expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I’m very happy to be working with Marc Evans and Ed Whitmore again after the success of Manhunt. Out There couldn’t be more different from Doc Martin. It’s pretty dark, but definitely a story worth telling.”
Alongside Martin Clunes, the series features Louis Ashbourne Serkis in the role of Johnny, Nathan’s teenage son. Other notable cast members include Mark Lewis Jones as Caleb Williams, Natalia Kostrzewa as Eva, Carly-Sophia Davies as Sadie, and Gerran Howell as Rhys.
Who is behind the series
“Out There” is commissioned by ITV and ITVX, with Polly Hill serving as the Head of Drama at ITV. The series is produced by Buffalo Pictures and executive produced by Ed Whitmore and Marc Evans. Philippa Braithwaite and Evie Bergson-Korn are the producers, with Marc Evans and Philippa Langdale directing. The drama is being produced in association with Creative Wales.
