As you know, I’m a sucker for shows about gritty, obsessive treasure hunters. Give me grizzled prospectors, unforgiving landscapes, and the glint of something precious buried deep beneath the surface. “Outback Opal Hunters” delivers all of this and more, with a side of Australian slang so thick you could spread it on toast. Tonight, we get a double dose of opal fever, and trust me, it’s a highly addictive substance.
First up, “Cheal Be Right” (and yes, I love that title). Spiders, broken machinery, and the ever-present threat of financial ruin – it’s just another day at the office for these opal-obsessed crews. Chris gets sidelined by a spider bite (because Australia), leaving Oscar and Luca to, quite literally, pick up the slack.
Meanwhile, Lee from Slim Pickings is dealing with a minefield of, well, actual mine shafts, on a quad bike. It’s a recipe for disaster, and I’m here for it. And let’s not forget Dan and Renee, whose dreams of opal riches hit a $30,000 snag.
Then, at 10:02 PM, we get “Over the Concrete Rainbow.” The Blacklighters, a team whose name suggests they might be more at home at a rave, face a double whammy of mechanical mayhem. Broken brakes and a busted hydraulic arm? It’s enough to make even the most hardened opal hunter weep.
And speaking of weeping, the Bushmen are facing a government crackdown that threatens their very livelihood. Thousands of opal claims are being shut down, and these guys are caught in the crosshairs.
