The American Revolution crashes into Fraser’s Ridge, bringing with it the usual chaos and questionable 18th-century hygiene. “Outlander,” never one to shy away from a good bayonet charge or a lingering stare, delivers both in “Written in My Own Heart’s Blood.” The Battle of Monmouth takes center stage, promising plenty of redcoat carnage and probably some historically inaccurate dialogue. Let’s be honest, historical accuracy isn’t why we’re here. We’re here for Jamie’s furrowed brow and Claire’s withering glances at anyone who dares question her medical expertise.
Beyond the battlefield theatrics, family drama takes a front seat. Lord John Grey and Ian embark on a rescue mission to save William. Meanwhile, Brianna faces a life-altering decision.
This episode marks the penultimate installment before the season finale, so expect some serious cliffhangers. “Outlander” excels at leaving viewers emotionally wrecked, desperate for the next dose of kilts and calamity. Based on Diana Gabaldon’s epic book series, the show continues to mine the source material for every last ounce of drama. Will it all pay off? We’ll find out soon enough.
“Outlander” airs Friday, January 3rd at 8:00 PM on STARZ.
