SBS has acquired Safe Harbor, a new drama series from Mark Williams, co-creator of Ozark. The show, not related to the 2018 Australian SBS drama Safe Harbour, is an eight-part series based on real events.

Here’s the Lowdown: Safe Harbor centers on a skilled hacker and his driven best friend, both aiming to make it big in the tech world. Their lives take a dangerous turn when they become involved with an Irish mob, thrusting them into the world of organized crime.

What This Means Now: SBS is bringing another high-profile international drama to Australian screens. The series boasts a recognizable cast, including Alfie Allen and Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones), Charlie Murphy (Peaky Blinders), and Colm Meaney (Hell on Wheels).

The Bigger Picture: The acquisition represents a solid choice for SBS, with talent from Ozark, a show which achieved massive international success, on both sides of the camera. The series is a co-production between companies in the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, and the US. It also raises a small question mark regarding its title, given the prior existence of an unrelated Australian series with a similar name.
