In the series premiere of Road Tripping, Paddy and Chris embark on a journey to Sweden, a country renowned for its healthy lifestyle and appreciation for the great outdoors. The duo, both around 50 years old, aim to embrace the Nordic concept of ‘friluftsliv’, which encourages a connection with nature to enhance mental and physical well-being.
They begin their adventure by immersing themselves in Swedish culture, from sweating it out in a traditional sauna to training in a ‘forest gym’ with a local. They also try their hand at the national sport of ice hockey and take a thrilling ride on a fairground rollercoaster. All the while, Paddy and Chris travel through stunning landscapes and engage in heartfelt conversations in their classic Volvo.
The trip also includes unique experiences such as riding a hydrofoil Candela boat and fishing for golden seaweed, a Swedish delicacy. They even take on a challenging hike on a remote island, followed by a refreshing swim in an icy lake. Through these experiences, Paddy and Chris explore how Swedes embrace nature to restore body confidence and reduce stress.
As they connect with nature and engage in new activities, Paddy and Chris reflect on their own lives and seek to discover if they can adopt a similar approach to growing older.
Paddy and Chris: Road Tripping, Sweden airs on BBC One on Sunday, 29 September 2024, at 8:00 PM.
