PARAMOUNT+ Announce New Drama FAKE Starring Asher Keddie and David Wenham

Fake, a new and unexpected love story set in a world of con artists, con men, dreamers, and phoneys, has been commissioned as a Paramount+ Original drama series by Paramount+ Australia and Screen Australia.
The eight-part series is based on the novel Fake by Stephanie Wood and is produced by Imogen Banks (Safe Home) and Emelyne Palmer (Safe Home) of Kindling Pictures. Asher Keddie (Offspring, Party Tricks, Love My Way), winner of three Gold Logie Awards, stars and will also serve as a producer.
What is Fake about
Fake is a gripping emotional thriller that investigates the nature of truth, love, lies, and the stories we tell. The series was created for television by Anya Beyersdorf, and is directed by Emma Freeman.
David Wenham, winner of an Australian Film Institute Award (SeaChange, Elvis, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Return of the King), co-stars with Asher Keddie.
Beautiful, smart, and talented magazine features writer Birdie Bell (Keddie) thinks she’s found “the one” when she connects with Joe Burt (Wenham), a successful herder, on a dating app.
Birdie is convinced by her well-meaning friends and family that this is her chance to live out the fairy tale ending she has always dreamed of. Birdie eventually realises that her boyfriend isn’t who he seems to be because holes start to appear in Joe’s stories.
Kindling Pictures founder Imogen Banks remarked: “Fake sees Asher Keddie and David Wenham partner on screen for the first time, and Anya Beyersdorf has written them dynamite roles.”
Who is making the series
Fake is a Kindling Pictures production. Paramount ANZ, Screen Australia, and VicScreen have all invested heavily in the production. The overseas distribution will be handled by Entertainment One (eOne).
