Paramount+ is shaking up its pricing structure in Europe, introducing new subscription tiers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland this summer. The move follows similar rollouts in other international markets, including the UK, Canada and Australia.
Here’s the Lowdown: Two new plans are coming. A premium, ad-free option will cost €12.99 per month in Germany and Austria, and CHF17.90 in Switzerland. A cheaper, ad-supported tier will be available for €5.99 per month in Germany and Austria, and CHF7.90 in Switzerland.
What This Means Now: This gives consumers more flexibility and control over their streaming budget. Viewers can choose to pay more for an uninterrupted experience or save money by opting for a plan with commercials. The ad-supported plan is launching in the UK and Ireland on March 26.
The Bigger Picture: Paramount+ is clearly focusing on international growth. Marco Nobili, EVP and International GM for Paramount+, stated that these tiered plans are already proving popular, with almost half of new sign-ups in several countries choosing non-standard options. This strategy allows the streaming service to compete more effectively in a crowded market by catering to a wider range of price sensitivities. Lee Sears, President of International Markets Advertising Sales, also highlighted the “opportunity for advertisers” to connect with viewers. Paramount+ finished 2024 with a very healthy 77.5 million subscribers.
